Through the directives of Presidency of Defence Industries of Turkey, state-owned defense company Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. (STM), a subsidiary of the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), has chosen DNV GL to verify the modernization and upgrade of Naval Platforms.
In parallel with the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) naval platforms’ vision, STM performs prime contractor role and delivers design and engineering solutions for national and global naval projects. “SSB had assigned STM to provide different roles for indigenous naval platform projects. Under their coordination, we have carried out and accomplished significant projects, such as Turkish Navy Corvette and Submarine Projects, the Pakistan Navy Fleet Replenishment Ship, Submarine Modernization and Analyses of Naval Base Projects.” stated STM.
“Naval platforms are the most complex vessels today, demanding the latest technology and continual quality control. By working together with DNV GL, we can ensure that Customers have a trusted Naval fleet. Moreover, we aim at setting and proving our reliable and effective partnership with DNV GL for further programs,” emphasized by STM.
Sea operations demand high-grade materials, technology fabrication and extraordinary quality control. DNV GL has a strong track record within the certification and classification of naval vessels, of which includes structural elements, machinery and electrical/electronic equipment. Combining this with long-standing expertise and extensive knowledge in the field of pressure and underwater technology made DNV GL an ideal partner for STM.
DNV GL experts are on hand during project qualification, providing detailed information, advice on certification, compliance and project requirements.
“We have more than 40 years of marine experience, from new- buildings to various repair and lifetime upgrade projects, such as the safety assurance up to classification of different vessels for several Navies,” stated DNV GL.
This is STM’s first collaboration with DNV GL in a naval project and both parties believe that their cooperation could lead to further international projects in repair, upgrade and new- buildings.
The collaboration implements the Customer Navy’s plans, projects and conversions according to internationally accepted and state-of-the-art classification and regulatory standards and unites the designer and classification society at a very early stage. STM and DNV GL describe the collaboration as a “win-win” situation: “STM receives certification for the modernization measures it has carried out, and Our Customers can continue to have confidence that their vessels meet top of the line quality requirements by receiving DNV GL’s Safety Certificate.”
