Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia (RMMVA) announced on 20 February that it has completed the delivery of its HX range of tactical military trucks to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
The Final Acceptance ceremony took place at Rheinmetall’s Military Vehicles Center of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) in Queensland, the company said.
According to the announcement, RMMVA has delivered 3,580 medium and heavy military logistics trucks as well as 3,165 modules and protected cabs under the aupices of the Department of Defence (DoD)’s LAND 121 Phase 3B/5B programme.
“The first HX trucks procured under the LAND 121 Phase 3B/5B program entered service more than ten years ago. Since then, the HX truck has proven to be a mainstay for the Australian supply force,” said Michael Wittlinger, Chief of Staff of Rheinmetall AG and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of RMMVA.
“These vehicles are the logistical backbone of the Australian Army, transporting troops, food, water and other equipment throughout Australia,” added Wittlinger.
According to Rheinmetall, the Australian HX fleet includes recovery vehicle, transporter, self-loading hook-lift, fuel truck, tractor and tipper configurations. Testing and verification was carried out at the Australian Automotive Research Centre (AARC) near Anglesea, Victoria. Rheinmetall commenced delivery of the HX trucks to the ADF from April 2016.
The company also noted that over 20,000 HX trucks are in service around the world, with Australia being part of an international HX user community that includes Austria, Canada, Denmark, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, United Kingdom, Singapore, and Sweden.
With deliveries to the ADF completed, Rheinmetall is transitioning to support and sustain the Australian HX fleet, utilising a national network of partners and suppliers.
