Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, which is Vietnam’s largest telecommunications company and a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of National Defence (MND), is taking the opportunity at the inaugural Vietnam Defence Expo 2022 from 8-10 December in Hanoi to highlight its indigenous Command, Control, Computer, Communication, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (C5ISR) solutions.
Viettel’s presence at the event is being headlined by its Viettel High Technology Industries Corporation (VHT) subsidiary, which was recently launched in May 2019 and aimed at supporting Vietnam’s efforts to become self-sufficient in advanced military technologies and secure exports.
VHT is also responsible for developing and commercialising advanced defence electronics technology, including artificial intelligence, big data analytics solutions, cyber defence, tactical communications, and military networking systems.
The company is highlighting its pedigree in communications with a full suite of software-defined radio (SDR) systems, which features high-speed broadband adaptive communication technologies and deep learning and reinforcement techniques. It is also pursuing cognitive radio technology to ensure reliability and security in highly contested spectrums.
The company has developed several indigenous radar systems for the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA)’s ground and naval forces, which are being showcased including early successes such as the Low Altitude 2D Radar which is claimed to be able to detect and locate targets at a distance of up to 300 km, at an altitude of less than 6 km.
It is also highlighting more recent developments such as the 3D S-Band Tactical Surveillance Radar, which adopts active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology and potentially offers higher performance and reliability compared to earlier systems.
VHT’s growing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) portfolio is also being put on display, including the tactical-class UAV-03 and the latest fixed-wing vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAV-6h, which possesses a flight endurance of up to five hours and a maximum range of 70 km.
