LIG Nex1 has told asianmilitaryreview.com that it hopes for the Republic of Korea (ROK) government to make a decision on which tactical radios it will procure for the ROK Army (ROKA) by the end of the year.
Speaking on 21st February during the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) held in Abu Dhabi, company officials disclosed that they believe the ROK government will decide the tactical radios to be procured by the force by the end of this year.
The company offers several radios as part of its Tactical Multiband Multirole Radio (TMMR) family including its SDR-H handheld, SDR-V vehicular and SDR-P man-pack transceivers. These Very/Ultra High Frequency (V/UHF: 30 megahertz to three gigahertz) radios are all in the running to satisfy the ROKA requirement for new tactical radios across the handheld, vehicular and manpack domains. The firm stated that it expects new vehicular radios to be installed across the ROKA armoured vehicle fleet. Adding that it foresees the man-pack transceivers equipping company commanders, and the handheld radios platoon commanders.
The company added that the radios can accommodate up to seven waveforms including air-to-ground/ground-to-air, and ground-to-ground waveforms, while offering data rates of up to two megabits-per-second. The firm was unable to disclose both the potential monetary and numerical value of the ROKA requirement.
