Hyundai Rotem has received a contract on 29 September 2020 worth 407.7 billion won ($348.4 million) from the Republic of Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration to supply K806 and K808 wheeled armored vehicles.
These wheeled armored personnel carriers are a family of 6×6 and 8×8 armored vehicles that began to be fielded by the Republic of Korean Army.
The K806 a 6X6 model is intended for rear area security and defense while the K808 will provide frontline operations in multiple roles. It is being fielded in a number of variants including an armoured personnel carrier and can mount up to a 30mm autocannon in a remote or manned turret. Both vehicles are key elements of the ROK Army efforts to enhance the mobility and maneuver reaction capabilities of its forces.
This is the third contract for Hyundai for these vehicles with the previous order deliveries being completed by the end of 2020. The latest contact will see deliveries by 2030.
